Articles on Parenting Styles

There are so many articles on parenting styles these days that it could take hours just to sort through it all. And worst of all many of the articles on parenting styles are extremely academic in nature. That is they focus on the outcome of a particular style but do not elaborate in practical terms how to achieve a desired outcome.

So you can chose to do the hours of research yourself, or you could go and get yourself a cupper, sit down and let me do the leg work for you.

Below is a description of the different types of parenting styles that I have examined. If you want to read more about any particular styles simply click on the link to read my full article on that parenting style.

In each article I have discussed the main issues surrounding the parenting styles, including the positive and negative effects they have on our children. I have also included examples from my own personal experience to show you ways to use the articles on parenting styles to build on your parenting skills.
Personally I like to search through the information and find what resonates with me and experiment with that idea or concept and see if it works for me. Therefore I have not adopted any particular one of the parenting styles but I have taken a bit from one and another bit from others to develop my own good parenting skills.

This page is designed for you to simply read through the summaries below see what appeals to you and click through to the full article on that parenting style to read more. If the parenting style suits you then go for it, try it out experiment with it but most of all have fun with it. You may find one style fits you like a glove and decide to stick with that particular style. Or you could be more like me and find you like to take a mixture of the concepts from each of the articles on parenting style and make your own unique style.

Just remember the only right parenting style (or mixture of styles) is the one that works for you, the one that fits your particular set of values and beliefs.

Attachment Parenting
As the name suggests this style of parenting is about fostering a nurturing environment for the child that involves the baby being in a sense attached to the primary care giver. Instead of prams the attachment parent will carry the baby around in a sling, co sleep with the child and generally breastfeeds the child for longer than the norm in today’s society.

As the child grows the attachment mother and father attempt to understand the biological and physical needs of the child in attempt to better raise their children..... Attachment Parenting

Authoritarian and Permissive Parenting
Parenting styles are often discussed and researched in terms of how much demand (or control) the mother, father or primary care giver place on the child compared to how much responsiveness (love and affection) they give to their children. In terms of demand and responsiveness, the parenting styles of authoritarian and permissive are the polar opposite of each other.....
Authoritarian Parenting and Permissive Parenting

Authoritative Parenting Style,
This style of parenting takes the best parts of authoritarian and permissive parenting to provide a more balanced and effective way to parent. It involves the parent having control but at the same time giving the child plenty of love and respect. It allows for negotiating with the child about rules and guidelines that have been set. Its aim is to provide a win-win situation for both the parents and the children.....
